Highlights

Snow showers and strong westerly winds during the night to Sunday may locally form unstable wind slabs. These may be easy to trigger, especially while they are fresh, but they are expected to stabilize relatively quickly. In areas that receive little new snow, the avalanche danger will be lower.

If the sun breaks through during the day, it may weaken the fresh snow and cause a few small, naturally released wet avalanches in steep terrain. These are expected to be few and limited in size.

Avalanche Activity

Snow showers and strong westerly winds during the night to Sunday may locally form unstable wind slabs. These may be easy to trigger, especially while they are fresh, but they are expected to stabilize relatively quickly. In areas that receive little new snow, the avalanche danger will be lower. If the sun breaks through during the day, it may weaken the fresh snow and cause a few small, naturally released wet avalanches in steep terrain. These are expected to be few and limited in size.

Snøbyger og sterk vind fra vest natt til søndag kan lokalt danne ustabile fokksnøflak. Disse kan være mulig å løse ut, spesielt når de er helt ferske, men vil trolig stabilisere seg relativt raskt. I områder som får lite nysnø, vil skredfaren være lavere.

Dersom sola bryter gjennom utover dagen, kan den svekke den ferske nysnøen og gi enkelte små, naturlig utløste våte skred i bratt terreng. Disse ventes å være få og av begrenset størrelse.

Snowpack Structure

Snøbygene lørdag kveld kan stedvis har gitt et lag med nysnø i fjellet, samtidig som kraftig vind fra vest har omfordelt den. Denne fokksnøen har lagt seg oppå snødekke preget av mildvær og mye smelting i det siste.

Snøgrensen ligger rundt 400-600 moh. de fleste steder. Observasjoner på fredag viste at avrundede bergerkrystaller ved bakken fortsatt finnes fra cirka 1100 moh. Selvom hele snødekke er fuktig/våt er den altså foreløpig ikke blitt homogent.

Tendency

The avalanche danger is primarily linked to high-elevation areas where the precipitation falls as snow and strong winds form wind slabs in leeward terrain. Dry slab avalanches may be possible to trigger while the weather event is ongoing, but the wind slabs are expected to stabilise quickly in the mild temperatures.
