Weather Forecast

A ridge of high pressure is the dominate feature for Saturday and Sunday resulting in dry and sunny conditions. On Saturday, freezing levels are expected to be around 1500m and alpine winds are expected to be moderate-to-strong from the NE but easing during the day. On Sunday, freezing levels are forecast to be around 1300m and alpine winds light from the NW. The forecast for Monday has a trough sitting over the coast and the region should see increased cloud cover and may see light snowfall.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches have been reported recently. Avalanches are generally not expected on Saturday but small loose sluffing from steep sun exposed slopes is possible during the afternoon.

Snowpack Summary

A dusting of new snow has buried the previously variable snow surface which may have included wind-pressed surfaces or old wind slabs, a sun crust on all solar aspects, surface hoar, surface facets, and/or up to 5 cm of soft snow over a widespread supportive rain crust in wind sheltered areas. The snowpack is generally strong and well settled. However, large cornices may become weak with daytime warming.
