Slab avalanches are the main danger.
The sometimes large wind slabs can be released even by a single winter sport participant in all aspects at intermediate and high altitudes. This applies in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection. As a consequence of falling temperatures, the natural activity of moist and wet avalanches will appreciably decrease.
Over a wide area 100 to 150 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Saturday. The moderate wind has transported the new snow significantly. The new snow has settled to a large extent at low and intermediate altitudes. Intermediate and high altitudes: Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes. The surface of the snowpack will soften later than the day before.
