Wind slab

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.
Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.
The fresh wind slabs can be released by small loads and reach medium size. In particular on very steep slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas small and medium-sized natural dry avalanches are possible. In regions exposed to heavier precipitation and in the regions neighbouring those that are subject to danger level 3 (considerable) the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent and the danger is greater. As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase a little in particular on rocky slopes at low and intermediate altitudes.
Over a wide area 15 to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell in the last six days. The fresh snow of the last few days as well as the wind slabs formed during the snowfall are poorly bonded with the old snowpack in some places.
