Snowpack

In places above approximately 2200 m that are protected from the wind, this week’s new snow and snowdrift, which is substantial in some regions, are lying on a weak layer which has an angular structure and is still somewhat prone to triggering. People could trigger avalanches in this layer where it is thinly overlaid in particular, especially in places with little snow. Due to the changing wind direction, fresh snowdrift accumulations have formed in the last few days. Some of these could still be triggered.

Gliding avalanches are still possible.

The temperature rose. At midday at 2000 m, it was between -4 °C in the west and -9 °C in the east.

Wind

• There was a weak to moderate wind, with a mostly moderate easterly wind in the Prealps.
• There was a strong to stormy Bise wind on the Jura heights.

TrendMonday

Sunday night into Monday will be mostly clear. In the morning, it will be increasingly cloudy, with some clear spells in the south and east. Precipitation will set in in the afternoon in the west and north. The snowfall level will be around 2000 m, falling to around 1500 m in the evening. There will be a strong westerly wind, which will turn stormy at times in the north.

The avalanche danger will increase a little in the west and north during the day.

Tuesday

Precipitation will fall during the night, except in the south. The snowfall level will drop to 1000 to 1200 m. During the day, it will be mostly cloudy in the north with showers and occasional clear spells. The snowfall level will increase to around 1600 m in the west in the late afternoon. From Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon, 15 to 30 cm of snow is expected to fall in the west and north above 2000 m, and up to 40 cm in the far west. It will be mostly sunny in the south.

The danger of dry avalanches will increase, especially in the west and north. In addition, the danger of gliding avalanches will rise somewhat, especially in regions exposed to rain.
