Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs represent the main danger.

More recent wind slabs can be released in some cases, in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls on very steep slopes. In isolated cases the avalanches are medium-sized. Caution is to be exercised at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. As a consequence of warming mostly small moist avalanches are possible, especially on very steep slopes, as well as at the base of rock walls.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of rising temperatures a sometimes unfavourable avalanche situation will develop. In all aspects snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Below approximately 1800 m from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying. On steep sunny slopes below approximately 2500 m a little snow is lying. The snowpack is not distinctly layered. Shady slopes: The snowpack consists of faceted crystals.

Tendency

The weather conditions will foster a gradual change towards better conditions on wind-loaded slopes.
