Avalanche Activity

The new snow of the last few days represents the main danger.

The fresh snow as well as the sometimes large wind slabs formed during the snowfall must be evaluated with care and prudence. Avalanches are possible as the day progresses, even large ones in isolated cases, in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation caution is to be exercised on steep sunny slopes. The new snow and wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant. The current avalanche situation calls for careful route selection.

Snowpack Structure

20 to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until midday. In particular at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions there is still a very large amount of snow. The rain gave rise on Tuesday to thorough wetting of the snowpack below the tree line. The spring-like weather conditions gave rise to increasing settling of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes.
