Highlights

The majority of the terrain on the Manti Skyline has a LOW avalanche danger. There is a "pockety" or spotty MODERATE avalanche danger in the higher terrain where the wind has formed fresh drifts and slabs of snow. These are most pronounced right along the ridgelines on steep northwest through east facing terrain. If you avoid steep terrain with fresh drifts, you will stay safe today.

    Steep slopes with fresh wind drifts are where you could find trouble today. My hunch is that most of these drifts will be pretty stubborn but a few may be sensitive to the weight of a person. The biggest threat is where these drifts have formed on top of an area that has weak sugary facets near the ground. It is impossible to tell just by looking at a drift if it is sitting on facets. Therefore, it is wise just to avoid these fresh drifts on any steep slopes.

Snow and Weather

General Conditions: The storm lingered through most of the day on Monday with a few inches of new snow accumulation. Wind was a bit breezy but mostly stayed in the moderate speed category. The new snow is quite dense but it provided nice riding conditions. Total new snow depths are in the 4 to 6 inch range.

Mountain Weather: We start out with high clouds that should dissipate later on. Temperatures should get into the low 30s today. Wind will be light to moderate in speed from the southwest. Wednesday looks similar with perhaps fewer clouds. Another storm moves in Thursday and it could deliver a decent shot of snow. Maybe in the 6 inch range.
