Choose areas sheltered from the wind for the best snow quality and a reduced risk of exposure to wind slabs. They still need some time to stabilize.

Avalanche Summary

In the last 24 hours, two avalanches of size 1 to 1.5 were accidentally triggered by users in the Alpine and at treeline on eastern aspects.

Signs of natural activity were reported or observed in leeward couloirs in the alpine.

If you are out in the backcountry, please share your observations on the Mountain Information Network (MIN).

Snowpack Summary

In the alpine and at treeline, the recent storm snow has been redistributed by the moderate to strong northwesterly winds, meaning that the surface and snowpack depth vary strongly according to aspect.

Below the treeline and in areas sheltered from the wind, there is between 20 and 40 cm of powder, depending on the area. The middle of the snowpack is generally well settled. Facets are present near the crusts at the base of the snowpack. At mid-mountain, snow depth varies between 90 and 140 cm.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Seek out wind sheltered terrain below treeline where you can avoid wind slabs and find great riding.
  • Carefully evaluate steep lines for wind slabs.
  • Watch for newly formed and reactive wind slabs as you transition into wind-affected terrain.

Avalanche Problems
