Soft slabs formed during recent snow and strong winds lie in avalanche terrain at the mid and high elevations. Skiers and riders have the potential to trigger these slabs in steep avalanche starting zones to depths of up to two feet. Avalanches at low elevations are unlikely today except for in isolated areas of very steep terrain.

Increasing clouds may deliver periods of light snow tonight and Saturday with little accumulation expected. Temperatures at all elevations are to rise from near ten below zero in the morning to the single digits during the afternoon. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate throughout western Wyoming on New Years Day. On steep wind loaded slopes at the higher elevations in the Teton and Southwest Trails areas the chance continues for snowmobilers and skiers to trigger soft slabs to depths of two feet. Slab depths in the Togwotee pass area could have depths to eighteen inches.
