Avalanche Summary

You could trigger an avalanche where winds have drifted snow into connected slabs. Snow that has formed a slab may feel stiff and can often be found near ridgelines or in cross-loaded terrain features. Assess slopes that have more than about 8 inches of drifted snow for signs of instability. If you observe cracking or collapsing, avoid drifted areas or stick to lower-angle slopes.
