At the high elevations, the possibility continues for backcountry riders and skiers to trigger persistent slab avalanches in steep avalanche starting zones. Avalanches below 9,000 feet are unlikely today except for in isolated pockets.
Persistent slabs to two foot depths lie in steep avalanche starting zones and rocky areas. Caution is advised as it is difficult to predict which areas remain unstable as most terrain can be traveled without incident before a weak area is found.
Occasional snow showers are possible overnight and on Friday in advance of a stronger system that should bring significant snowfall to the area Friday night and Saturday. Westerly ten to fifteen mile per hour winds are predicted during the day before intensifying and becoming southwesterly during the evening. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate in all areas. Above 7,500 feet in the Tetons and Togwotee Pass areas and at all elevations in the Southwest/Greys River area, slab avalanches could be triggered in steep terrain. These slabs could have depths to two feet in the Tetons and to Three feet in the other forecast areas.
