New snow and wind slabs represent the main danger. Dry slab avalanches and moist avalanches are to be expected.

Wednesday: 10 to 20 cm of snow fell in the early morning. Thus far the wind has been strong in some localities. The new snow is bonding poorly with the old snowpack. In particular at elevated altitudes snow depths vary greatly at elevated altitudes, depending on the infuence of the wind. Over a wide area various wind slab layers are lying on a hard crust. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. In its middle, the snowpack is fairly homogeneous.

The avalanche danger will decrease gradually. Natural avalanches are still possible.

A lot of snow will fall on Thursday in some localities, especially at intermediate and high altitudes. As a consequence of sleet and the strong westerly wind, an unfavourable avalanche situation will develop. Along the border with France the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase. Large natural avalanches are likely. Avalanches can reach valley bottoms and in isolated cases endanger exposed transportation routes. Low and intermediate altitudes: Moist avalanches are possible. Slides can occur on cut slopes. As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind from westerly directions, large wind slabs will form. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular above approximately 2200 m. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released even by a single winter sport participant.
