Forecast Snow Stability: The remaining patchy snow cover will be moist initially, becoming firmer later in the day, with generally good stability throughout. During the afternoon, isolated shallow deposits of fresh windslab may develop, primarily where overlying the old snow on South-East to South aspects above 1000 metres. These are not expected to be significant. Elsewhere a superficial dusting of snow will fall mainly on bare ground. The avalanche hazard will be Low.
Forecast Weather Influences: Heavy rain is expected, falling as wet snow on the highest summits. Throughout the afternoon precipitation will ease and fall as snow above around 600 metres. The freezing level will be above the summits until around midday when it is forecast to decrease to reach 600 metres by the end of the forecasting period. Overnight the winds will be storm force West-South-Westerly. Throughout the day the wind will veer to become Northerly and decrease to fresh strength. Observed Weather Influences: Storm force Westerly winds. A mainly dry morning with showers later in the day. The freezing level was above the summits with a midday summit temperature of plus 1.6 degrees celsius. ObservedSnowStability: The remaining snow continues to thaw and diminish with generally good stability in all locations. The patchy snow cover is mainly on North-East through East to South aspects above 1000 metres. Elsewhere the ground is mostly bare. The avalanche hazard is Low.
