Highlights

Avalanches are unlikely on Saturday.  Always keep your eyes open for signs of instability, and use safe travel techniques like riding slopes one at a time.

Avalanche Discussion

We've had a sustained period with very little new snow in the Monument (only about 1 inch in the last 10 days or so).  Since then, we've had some periods with sustained North winds which largely scoured many of the steeper North facing start zones near the peak.  We also had that spring-like weather earlier this week, which means that sunnier slopes melted and then refroze when the temperature dropped below freezing.  It's remarkable that there is any soft snow out there, but it can still be found in open, shaded glades lower in the terrain.  That being said, there really isn't enough soft snow in the right places to contribute to any avalanche problems.

Riding conditions are pretty variable, but maybe the sunny skies and brisk winter temperatures make up for that a bit! ...and the grooming crew has been kicking butt out there!  Thanks!
