Fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can still be released at intermediate and high altitudes.
On wind-loaded slopes an unfavourable avalanche situation will persist. The new snow and wind slabs of last week can be released, especially by large additional loads, in particular on steep shady slopes. Avalanches can in some places be released by small loads, but they will be small in most cases, especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. On steep shady slopes the avalanches can be released in deep layers of the snowpack.
2 to 5 cm of snow, but less in some localities, fell on Tuesday above approximately 1200 m. The wind slabs of last week are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes above approximately 2100 m. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack on shady slopes. Sunshine and high temperatures gave rise on Monday to increasing consolidation of the snowpack in all aspects below approximately 3000 m. Especially sunny slopes as well as low and intermediate altitudes: The upper section of the snowpack is largely stable and its surface has a crust that is strong in many cases.
