Highlights

Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs can still be released in particular on steep north, northeast and northwest facing slopes at high altitude. From the early morning as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation there will be a gradual increase in the danger of gliding avalanches and moist snow slides.

Low and intermediate altitudes as well as sunny slopes: Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to rapid moistening of the snowpack. Backcountry tours and off-piste skiing should be started and concluded early. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on north, northeast and northwest facing slopes. The older wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence above approximately 2400 m. On wind-loaded slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain the situation is more precarious.

Snowpack Structure

Above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Especially shady slopes where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are unfavourable. The wind slabs can still be released in particular on steep north, northwest and northeast facing slopes above approximately 2400 m. Low and intermediate altitudes as well as sunny slopes: The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to rapid moistening of the snowpack.
