Forecast Weather Influences: There will be a return to colder conditions with a freezing level through the day of around 600 metres. New snow and fresh to strong variable South-Westerly winds will affect the area overnight and through the course of Friday. Observed Weather Influences: Milder conditions overnight gave a period of rain with sleet on the higher slopes. Winds have been strong to gale force generally South-Westerly. The freezing level initially this morning was above the summits but had lowered to around 900 metres by mid day. Light snow showers are expected through Thursday afternoon. ObservedSnowStability: Surface snow instabilities exist on the steepest slopes and gullies mainly above 1000 metres, these are in the main avoidable, elsewhere the snowpack is soft moist and generally stable.
