A clear night will be followed in the early morning by quite favourable conditions mostly. On very steep slopes individual small and medium-sized gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. From the afternoon the weather will be partly cloudy. Above approximately 1600 m snow will fall during the night over a wide area. As a consequence of new snow and a light to moderate wind, mostly small wind slabs will form during the course of the night. High altitudes and the high Alpine regions: Some fresh snow and very particularly the mostly small wind slabs that are forming during the snowfall can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases.
Outgoing longwave radiation during the night was good. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. Below approximately 2800 m: The snowpack is fairly homogeneous and its surface has a melt-freeze crust. Above approximately 3000 m, shady slopes: The snowpack is dry and its surface consists of loosely bonded snow lying on a crust that is strong in many cases. As a consequence of mild temperatures and solar radiation the snowpack consolidated at the weekend. This applies in particular on steep sunny slopes at high altitude, and in all aspects at low and intermediate altitudes. Below approximately 2400 m only a little snow is lying on south facing slopes. In the last three days on very steep northwest, north and northeast facing slopes individual small and medium-sized avalanches were observed.
Wednesday: Down to 1500 m and below snow will fall until the early morning in some regions. The new snow is bonding poorly with the old snowpack in many places. The danger of moist snow slides and avalanches will already exist in the early morning.
