Avalanche Activity

Weak layers in the old snowpack are treacherous. The danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase a little during the day.

Single winter sport participants can release avalanches as before. In particular on very steep north, northeast and east facing slopes the avalanches can be released in the weakly bonded old snow and reach large size in isolated cases, caution is to be exercised in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain, and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. Remotely triggered avalanches are possible in isolated cases. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation small and medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible. The surface of the snowpack will soften quickly. Backcountry tours and off-piste skiing should be concluded early.

Snowpack Structure

Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be good in some case. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften quickly. Sunshine and high temperatures gave rise to moistening of the snowpack in all aspects in particular below the tree line. The old snowpack remains weakly bonded on shady slopes. The wind slabs are to be found adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls.
