GC 14/1 Unstable windslab developing on NW to E aspects mainly above 800m. Cornices fragile and unstable. Av hazard Considerable.

Forecast Snow Stability: New unstable windslab will develop during the forecast period. The greatest accumulations will be in steep wind sheltered locations mainly on North-West through North to East aspects above 800 metres. Windslab accumulations will gain depth becoming more widespread in the afternoon with sheltered gullies and steep coire rims particularly affected. Fragile cornices will develop above these aspects. Wind exposed slopes often scoured and generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will fall to around 500 metres by early morning. Snow showers above 400 metres through most of the day accompanied by fresh to strong Southerly winds. Observed Weather Influences: Last nights precipitation gave way to a much drier day accompanied by some brighter spells. The freezing level was around 900 metres with some occasional light snow showers mainly above 800. Winds were moderate to strong from a Westerly direction. ObservedSnowStability: New snow amounts did not materialise and yesterdays moist snowpack under went a slight melt freeze cycle which has helped to partially consolidate the snowpack. However, some localised areas of moderately bonded windslab are still present in wind sheltered locations particularly on North to Easterly aspects above 900 metres with gully exits and steep scarp slope mostly affected. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
