Forecast Snow Stability: Drifting snow at higher elevations. Accumulations of unstable windslab will develop in wind sheltered locations. Areas most affected will be around the tops of gullies and corrie rims on South-West to North-West aspects above 1000 metres. Elsewhere the snowpack will continue to consolidate and be generally well bonded and stable throughout. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.
Forecast Weather Influences: Light snowfall through the night on light to moderate East-North-East winds. Friday is expected to be dry with moderate to strong East-South-East winds. The freezing level will fall overnight, and remain at 600 metres for the rest of the forecast period. Observed Weather Influences: Occasional light precipitation falling as snow above 1000 metres. Light Northerly winds. The freezing level was at 1000 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Soft accumulations of windslab are present on steep North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 metres. Debris from recent surface instabilities was observed on a steep North facing slope at 1000 metres. Elsewhere the old snowpack is stable throughout. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
