Fresh and older wind slabs require caution.

The wind will be strong to storm force in the vicinity of peaks over a wide area. In particular adjacent to ridgelines the wind slabs will increase in size additionally. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases above approximately 2500 m. The wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects above approximately 2500 m.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack is moist and its surface has a crust that is barely capable of bearing a load. This applies in particular below approximately 2500 m. In addition wind slabs formed adjacent to ridgelines in all aspects and generally in the high Alpine regions. In the afternoon the wind slabs will increase in size once again.
