The General Avalanche Hazard is LOW at all elevations this morning but will rise to MODERATE by this afternoon at the upper and mid elevations as new falling snow and strong Southwesterly Winds form pockets of soft surface slabs to a foot in depth that lie predominantly upon hard crusts. As these slabs form they will become increasingly sensitive to backcountry travellers, particularly in steep avalanche starting zones and near cliff edges.

Mostly cloudy skies and cold temperatures(mountain highs in the low teens) are expected Friday with the possibility of a few lingering snow showers, especially tonight as the last storm exists. Winds should lower overnight and are expected to be between 10 and 20 mph during the day Friday.AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:If winds and snowfall taper off overnight and little snow is recieved the avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW at low and mid elevations and MODERATE at upper elevations where pockets of soft slabs could be triggered in very steep avalanche terrain.Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
