Highlights

The general avalanche hazard this morning is LOW and will quickly rise through MODERATE to CONSIDERABLE by the afternoon. Cool overnight temperatures have temporarily stabilized the snowpack. As temperatures rise, along with sunshine, the avalanche hazard will increase. At lower elevations, where overnight temperatures barely dipped below freezing, the possibility of point slides and wet slabs to the ground will rapidly increase this morning and throughout the day. With a gain in elevation, sloughing and wet slides will be possible on sunlit aspects, having the potential of entraining dangerous volumes of snow. Large cornice drops could also act as a trigger for both avalanche scenarios.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A flat ridge of high pressure will continue to build in tonight, resulting in mostly clear skies tomorrow. In the mountains, overnight lows should be in the teens before rising into the mid 30s. In the valley, temperatures should dip into the high teens tonight, before rebounding into the high 40s by the afternoon. AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The general avalanche hazard tomorrow morning will be LOW before quickly rising through MODERATE to CONSIDERABLE by the afternoon.
