Highlights
Unstable surface slabs one to three feet in depth exist on a variety of steep wind loaded aspects at the mid and upper elevations. As the day progresses new snow and wind will add additional loads to these existing slabs and increase the potential for them to be triggered by humans. Mostly stable snow exists at the lower elevations.
Avalanche Discussion
Mountain snow showers are likely Friday night and possible on Saturday in a post frontal northwesterly flow. Northwesterly winds overnight are expected to back to the west on Saturday and diminish to 10 to 20 miles per hour. Temperatures will be colder with morning lows in the single digits and daytime highs warming into the teens at elevation. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE in the Teton Range. Surface slabs one to three in depth could be human triggered on steep wind loaded aspects above 7,500 feet. The general avalanche hazard in the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass and Southwest Trails/Greys River areas is also expected to be MODERATE. In these areas surface slabs one to three feet in depth could be human triggered on steep wind loaded aspects. In addition mid pack and full depth hard slab avalanches could be human triggered in steep areas with buried layers of weak faceted snow.
