The most dangerous slopes face west through north to southeast near and above treeline. You can trigger an avalanche from a distance or from below so be aware of steep slopes above you. Although less likely, you can still encounter the dangerous slab over weak snow combination below the treeline as well. If you notice cracking or collapsing around you as you travel stick to low-angle slopes. Safer travel options exist on wind-sheltered slopes below treeline.
