It was quite sunny in the west and north, while elsewhere it was often cloudy.

In the middle of the day at 2000 m at +8 °C in the north and +6 °C in the south

Light to moderate, with strong southerly winds at high altitudes in some localities

Snowpack

This week’s new snow and snow drift accumulations are now mostly well consolidated. In the high Alpine regions, the more recently formed wind slabs are still prone to triggering in some cases. Isolated avalanches may be triggered in the old snowpack. This affects those slopes where there was already snow before the precipitation in the second half of October: northern slopes above approximately 2800 m and in the high Alpine regions in general.

Gliding avalanches are still possible on steep grassy slopes; these may be medium sized in the west and north.

In the north, it will be partly sunny in the early morning, becoming increasingly cloudy as the day progresses. Cloud cover will be very heavy in the south.

Wind

Moderate to strong in the west and in the high Alpine regions in general, elsewhere light to moderate from the southwest

Outlook

There will be widespread precipitation on Sunday. The snowfall level will drop from 2600 m to 2400 m in the south and 1800 m in the north. A widespread 10 to 20 cm of snow will fall at high altitudes. Up to 40 cm of snow is possible on the highest peaks on the Main Alpine Ridge from the Lukmanier Pass to the Bernina Pass and to the south of it. The avalanche danger will increase in these areas in particular.

Overnight to Monday, some snow will continue to fall in the north. During the day, there will be frequent sunny periods. The avalanche danger will decrease.
