Avalanche Activity

In the late morning below approximately 3200 m there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches.

The spring-like weather conditions from the late morning will give rise to a loss of strength within the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes. The danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase a little during the day. They can occur in particular in starting zones where previous releases have taken place. In addition a latent danger of ground avalanches exists, in particular on very steep grassy slopes. Backcountry tours, off-piste skiing and ascents to alpine cabins should be concluded timely. Avalanches can in some places be released in the old snowpack on steep shady slopes. These avalanche prone locations are rare and are therefore barely recognisable.

Snowpack Structure

The conditions are spring-like. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to increasing moistening of the snowpack especially at intermediate altitudes. Towards its surface, the snowpack is unfavourably layered. Less snow than usual is lying. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying. In the last few days small avalanches were observed. This applies on steep shady slopes in particular between approximately 2400 and 2800 m.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist. The conditions remain spring-like.
