Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches have been reported in the region. The likelihood of loose wet avalanches on sun-affected slopes will increase throughout the day as temperatures rise and the snowpack warms, especially in areas where fresh snow has accumulated.

Snowpack Summary

Precipitation amounts totaled 80 to 100 mm over the weekend. This has likely fallen as snow above around 1700 m and as rain below 1200 m, where the snowpack is rapidly melting. Between 1200 m and 1700 m, expect a rapid change from 0 cm to 80 cm of recent snowfall. The snow has likely been blown around by strong south wind.

Problems

Loose Wet

An icon showing Loose Wet
The recent snow will moisten quickly on southerly aspects when the clouds clear. Loose wet avalanches can grow in danger quickly, so use added caution when the sun is out.
Use extra caution on slopes if the snow is moist or wet.Minimize exposure to steep, sun-exposed slopes when the solar radiation is strong.

Aspects: East, South East, South, South West, West.

Wind Slabs

An icon showing Wind Slabs
Substantial snowfall has accumulated around treeline and above, and fell with strong southwest wind. Expect to find the deepest and most reactive deposits in lee terrain features.
Be careful with wind-loaded pockets, especially near ridge crests and roll-overs.Minimize exposure to overhead avalanche terrain, as large avalanches may travel far.Travel conservatively above the recent rain-snow line (around 1300 m).

Aspects: North, North East, East, South West, West, North West.

Elevations: Alpine.
