Regions: Chic-Chocs.

The last low-pressure system will have left a good quantity of ice pellets and, sadly, lots of freezing rain.

It's the return of the crust, the ice and the perilous conditions in the mountains.

Snowpack Summary

Following the passage of the low-pressure system which brought us a complete toolbox of mixed precipitation (snow, ice pellets, freezing rain), we find a generalized crust of 3 to 5 cm in the mountains. It supports the weight of a skier in the alpine and is always friable at and below the treeline. Moist snow is always present under it. We can therefore expect this crust to thicken with the colder temperatures of the next few days. It goes without saying that travel in the alpine and on steep terrain is, once again, extremely hazardous. With the snowpack still thin, the consequences of slipping on these icy surfaces could be fatal. The spatial variability is important, going from rock, to ice, to areas of larger accumulations ... but very icy!Generally speaking, the thickness of the snow cover varies from 50 to 100 cm depending on the sector and the altitude.
