From Saturday to Tuesday, 80 to 150 cm of snow fell across a wide area in the north. This was transported by strong to storm force winds from west to north and deposited very unevenly. The new and drifted snow is covering a faceted weakly bonded old snowpack, especially on west-, north- and east-facing slopes. However, the heavy layer of snow covering the weakly bonded old snow on the northern flank of the Alps and in northern and western Valais will have a positive effect in the coming days and the probability of triggering in the old snowpack will decrease. The situation is more critical in southern Valais, as well as in a strip from northern Ticino through northern Grisons and the northern regions of central Grisons to Lower Engadine. There, the weakly bonded old snow is covered by around 50 to 80 cm of snow. South of this region, in the southern areas of central Grisons, southern Grisons and central Ticino, there is still little snow. There, with the strong northerly wind, wind slabs were deposited on a thin, almost completely faceted and loose snowpack. These are prone to triggering.

Friday and Saturday will remain sunny, with mostly light winds and very mild. The zero-degree level will be over 3000 m.
The avalanche danger will continue to decrease, especially in the north. There are persistent weak layers in southern Valais and from northern Ticino through northern and central Grisons to Lower Engadine. The avalanche danger in these regions will consequently decrease only very slowly. Moist snow slides are possible on steep sunny slopes. At intermediate and low altitudes, further gliding avalanches are to be expected, especially in the north.
