Quick report
Skied the Y Chute off the south side of Jake's today, with a late start, hoping for the crust to break down. The sun was behind high, hazy cloud cover the entire time I was out, but air temps were well above freezing, and there was no wind, making it feel very warm. The crust was intact but softening down low by late morning, with about 1 cm of moist grains atop a firm surface, making ski crampons a nice convenience to have. The rain/snow line was about 8500', as found elsewhere, and above this, there was 2-3" of new snow, which was also warming, but not yet sticky or gloppy at 12:30. On the descent, this skied well, with some small sluffing in the steepest terrain, on a slick bed surface below the new snow, but there was no significant rollerballing at all, and these only moved a short distance. Below the rain/snow line, the skiing was wonderful, very supportable psuedocorn, albeit thin coverage.
