Quick report

Toured out the Westside of the Tetons to investigate the upper portion of the snowpack. No signs of instability. Recent snow has settled significantly on W-S-E aspects down to 9-12" above the 3/21 crust into a firmer, cohesive slab. Melt freeze crust (breakable on W-E) formed yesterday on same aspects up to 9000'. Variable by aspect above that, found on south up to 9500'. Performed numerous hand shear tests to gauge the stability of the upper snowpack from 8500-9500'. Most failed on 3/21 or 3/23 interface, but Q2 and moderate to hard. Recent snow certainly gained strength with warm, solar influence yesterday and cold temps last night. 

Found different snowpack quality on northerly aspects above 8000' where recent snow was still unconsolidated powder. Dug a pit on a NNW wind loaded aspect at 8800', similiar to where most of the recent avalanche activity has occured. Found no propagation. 3/23 near surface facets were buried 10" and 3/21 facets were buried 14" (see snowpit).  

Small wind loaded test slopes were stubborn below 9500' slowly gaining strength after large temperature fluctuations and clear skies yesterday. Wind slabs could still be lingering on more exposed terrain.  Cloudy to mostly cloudy skies all day. Temperatures were warm below 7500' with globby, wet snow surfaces.
