Lincoln’s Throat

Approached Lincoln’s Throat via Old Bridle Path / Walker Brook drainage. On the way up the drainage we observed a few inches of light snow from the night before on top of a firm but edgeable snow surface. Dug a pit at 3776’ at 12:45pm on a NW aspect, near the base of Lincoln’s Throat. Hand hardness profile showed ~30cm of 1F-4F snow, atop a thin pencil-hard layer (which was not present everywhere and varied from one side of our pit to the other), over 1F snow to the bottom of our pit. CT & ECT each produced no failures. After testing, we were able to remove whole columns, but we think the failure was where we stopped isolating as we did not observe a density change at this level. Snow depth varied but in places was deeper than my 240cm probe. Moving up the gully, we did not observe any shooting cracks or other signs of instability. Good turns were had!
