Quick report
Real nice conditions for late October. Weather was clear with moderate to strong winds on the ridgetops. Not much cloud cover. Temps around freezing.
Snowpack
Well, there’s not as much of it as you might hope. Dug numerous hand shears at different elevations; 12/7 crust was in evidence all the way to the summit. We dug a pit at 7200ft on a NW aspect and observed failure under moderate force in the facets at the bottom of the 12/7 crust; these did not propagate. (Nerds: HS 85cm, CT13 Q3 ECTN17 both 35cm down). Certainly evidence of wind transport, but any true cohesion as a result was sparse and unevenly distributed. Solar aspects were wet on the surface during the late morning. We noted 1-1.5cm surface hoar formation on sheltered aspects.
