"Good for today, bad for tomorrow" If you are looking for an example of the ingredients that combine to make an avalanche, look no further. Facets that fall out of pit walls. Multiple crusts, with at least one being supportable enough to hold some weight. Shallow snowpack. Snow surface covered in surface hoar.
Travelled to the Wolf Creek Pass area a couple times since 12/10. Each time has produced great turning, due to loose surface snow. Each brush by storm has helped bridge the snow between the bushes, and with this upcoming storm, it could be enough snow to connect a slab across the terrain features. The area looks prime for snowmobiles, who haven't been able to travel there yet because of shallow snow.
With these ingredients, it's just a matter of time for this area to produce an avalanche. "Good for today, bad for tomorrow"
