Quick report

We toured on the north slopes of Crater Crest and found moderate to strong winds moving snow around near and above treeline. Winds were primarily westerly but were also blowing upslope at times, making for erratic dispersion of recent snow.

There was no wind slab formation in the areas we traveled but we avoided alpine start zones.  On the lee side of a steep roll above treeline,  an inch or two of snow had been deposited by wind but there was not yet enough to produce propagation. In both sheltered and open areas, recent surface hoar was still present but had been knocked down by strong winds.

On our descent through open terrain we could still feel the crust under recent low-density snow.
