Quick report
Snowpack was consolidated and snow cover was extremely thin heading up the NW ridge of Sorcery yesterday. The snowpack was deeper when not under tree’s rain shadows (boot pen was 6”~1’) or in shaded areas near the summit. In the deeper areas the snow was not supportive. I booted the whole way up, but also regretted not bringing floatation (snowshoes) due to uncertainty around stability and depth between boulders. It would have been extremely challenging with snowshoes though given the large number of exposed boulders. The snowpack was a mix of ice/Cascade Concrete/rounding snow. I could not find any dry snow, but I wasn’t really seeking it out, either. Travel looked challenging on other mountains in the area. I got an idea of how low the snow cover was on Big Snow Mt for instance when looking at its north ridge. I saw lots of bare sections, depressions in the boulder field, and
