Snowpack

Snow cover amounts in this area range from bare ground to 7 inches. NW-N-NE-E aspects hold the most snow cover, especially above about 8,000'. Areas of wind drifted snow up to 3 feet deep were encountered, though none of these deeper drifted in areas covered much of any one slope. As expected, the recent new snow is faceting and weakening, especially in shaded and wind protected areas. Facets are getting sugary, but still had some ability to clump together today when lightly squeezed in the hand. There was some surface hoar at 4 mm in size on open slopes. With low sun angles this time of year, the faceting process is expected to progress on slopes that face the northern half of the compass.
