Quick report

Cracking
isolated

Car said 1F in the parking lot at Hyak at 9am and remained cold all day. Clear skies and great views. Signs of wind effect on snow were everywhere we traveled, textured snow and lots of down branches. Stepping out of skin track produced small cracks, but did not shoot out from skis. Hand pits broke apart a 1 inch slab at snow surface, but nothing deeper. Dug a pit at 4k on a north east facing rollover at the bench below Christmas tree bowl. Snowpack seemed well consolidated with obvious crusts at 60cm and 100cm. Some weak unconsolidated snow below the lower crust. Skied east and north east treed slopes. Top 1 inch wind slab broke apart easily but didn't propagate. No other signs of instability on the way down. Snow felt thick and made for heavy turns in spots.
