Quick report

On Saturday, 20240420, a light breeze kept the worst of the warming at bay, leading to good corn skiing but stable conditions on all but the steepest solar aspects. North aspects still harbor some cold snow, which was capped by thin crusts on NE and NW aspects. On the South face of Corteo Peak we observed several large avalanches, the largest of which was in the ~D3 range and gouged to ground in a deep gully sometime in the last week. It appeared to us that most of the rocky South faces in this region have already experienced the major shed cycle, but the North faces have not fully transitioned to spring.

Avalanche

Widespread older <D1 wet loose avalanches on solar aspects throughout the Black Peak and Corteo Peak drainages. Several D2-D3 wet slides on the South face of Corteo Peak
