- <p>I went out today with the sole purpose of seeing what the mid-elevation snow surface and just under the surface was like before this was buried by the upcoming storm. I found what I was looking for with 1-3 crust layers with faceted snow between them. In some places, there is just an ice layer on the surface with facets below it. Other places had dense snow sitting on facets that were sitting on this crust. My concern will be the new snow on this weak snow sitting on top of the crust which will provide an excellent bed surface for avalanches.</p>
Snowpack
Snow surface varied from skating rink ice to breakable crust. A few very sheltered place had some soft snow on top of these crusts.
