Quick report
Toured through the lower snowfields to the top of the Christmas Tree. I saw strong wind transport off of ridge lines above the S/SE facing lines in Tuckerman ravine. I did not see the same degree of consistent active transport on other aspects in the area. Through my tour, mostly on a NE aspect, between 3800-4500’, I travelled across a firm and supportable snow surface, the texture of which indicated wind scouring. Ski Penetration never exceeded 5cm. A hasty pit at 4300’ showed a right side up structure in the surface snow (photo included). The new snow felt well bonded to the old snow, and didn’t show any reactivity underfoot. The variable condition of the snow surface, plus observed wind transport made me concerned about finding a reactive slab in more consequential terrain, and being out solo made that an unacceptable risk. I skied down my ascent path from the top of the Christmas tree, the turns were enjoyable
