Snowpack
25 - 40 cm of new snow fell in the Convict area. The snowpack seems a lot more stable today and I did not see any cracking or shooting cracks in the moderate terrain where I skied today. The cloud that sat over much of our area today allowed for some prolonged green-housing. The heat trapped by the cloud made the snow heavy and moist by the end of the afternoon.
Avalanche
While touring up to Mono Jim today I saw many Dry Loose slides that ran during the stormy period from March 27th to this morning, March 30th. In two places the Dry Loose slides triggered a Slab avalanche, likely Wind Slabs. Seeing these recent avalanches confirmed that the ESAC avalanche danger rating CONSIDERABLE was accurate for the last couple of days.
