Dark and stormy to start the day. Overcast skies were spitting rain and rain/snow mix. Clouds broke around 1100 and skies remained broken until about 1400. Precipitation picked up around 1600 and was raining heavy (below 5500') at 1700.

Snowpack

Mostly traveling around today and not digging in the snow. Surface snow was soft and moist. Good travel for snowmobiling. This region has a notoriously shallower and weaker snowpack than the forecast zone around McCall, with the exception being closer to Deadwood Summit. I probed around at several spots throughout the day. HS totals from: Warm Lake Summit (7200') ~175 cm (6 ft.); Deadwood Summit (6800') 260 cm (9 ft.); Landmark (6600') 140 cm (5 ft.); Cabin Creek Pass (7200') 275 cm (9.5 ft.). Below 6500', the snowpack was soft and moist, becoming punchy in the afternoon, especially below 6000'.

We observed multiple wet loose avalanches from the previous 3-5 days. One very large avalanche just east of Warm Lake started as a wet slab up around 6500 and funneled debris into three different gullies with several large trees in each debris pile.
