Quick report
On our way out to our objective along the road we observed some overnight developed surface hoar in a shadowed north facing aspect. We snowmobiled the ridge line west of Perazzo Canyon and we were able to find an isolated small wind slab on a NE aspect that was triggered by human snowmobile interaction. Wind had as forecasted decreased significantly and by 1100 we observed no notable wind at elevations above 7000’. We continued down the ridge line southwest where we dug two snow pits, one on a south aspect and the other north facing. The top 15cm of snow was highly made up of soft sugary faceted snow. We obtained no results from a CT on ether aspect; however we observed greater snow loading and snow depth on the north facing side while the south facing side showed greater solar radiation and a slightly more cohesive snowpack. During this time we also observed surface snow melting and beginning to re-freeze creating a thin melt/freeze crust on southern aspects. Overall great snowmobiling conditions in north facing shaded areas above 7000’ and no signs of avalanche problems. Duncan and Issac 5 Staaws
