Quick report

Cracking
isolated

We traveled mostly on slopes <35* (according to digital maps) and dabbled on sunny slopes 35-40*. No significant signs of instability, and no glaring avalanche problems today where we traveled. The sun was making the surfaces damp on steep, calm, southerly aspects from noon-2 PM. We did not see any fresh, sun-induced loose snow avalanche activity on the drive back to Hailey, but there was some minor, fresh rollerball activity.

Cracking: S facing >35* slope at 9250', a couple thinly wind-loaded pockets just below a rock buttress that had been cooking in the sun around noon. Picnic table sized areas about 10-15cm thick cracked and oozed on the 1/1 crust. These were in wind-exposed areas where the snowpack was less than 2 feet deep, and the upper 5 cm was moist.

Snowpack

No formal snowpits (skiing on a day off). SE-S-SW surfaces were getting moist on wind-sheltered >35* slopes. No rollerballs where we traveled from 10:00-2:00, in part due to a lack of very steep slopes.

Surfaces: no crusts from yesterday. Small SH in many areas.
