Location: "Avalanche Slope," just beyond the ski area boundary. We dug an informal pit to look for moisture in the snowpack. Found a 5 cm layer of very wet snow (could wring water out of it in your fist) at 110 cm from the ground, collecting on a thin ice layer. We found a thicker ice layer at 95 cm from ground. An informal shovel shear test failed on this 95 cm layer with > 30 tap load. 75 cm of snow above this 95 cm layer. The wet snow layer was uniform across our pit. No other pits dug on this slope.
