Did an afternoon lap up the forest road to Skyline Ridge. Noticable temperature inversion, with firm icy surface crust and trees shedding ice chunks under 4500' and warmer conditions above. Dug a small pit at 5150' on an unsheltered E aspect and found a 5cm crust below 7cm of warm, soft snow. Total snow depth 143cm. The crust is breakable making for tricky skiing, especially below the inversion line.
